Personalized Cat and Dog Vaccination Schedules
We believe in the power of personalized medicine, which is why we customize our vaccination protocols for each of our patients. Specific vaccine schedules and recommendations are based on a variety of factors, including your pet’s:
- Species
- Law requirements
- Breed
- Age
- Health status
- Activity level
- Risk of exposure to disease
- Frequency of travel and destination
- Lifestyle
When you bring your pet in for their preventative wellness exam, our doctor will discuss these recommendations with you before determining a vaccination protocol designed to meet your pet’s needs. Feel free to talk to our staff if you have any questions about your pet’s vaccination requirements. We believe that well-educated pet owners are the best pet owners, so we’re happy to speak with you about your concerns.
Canine Influenza Vaccine
Canine influenza (CIV) is a highly contagious virus that has recently broken out here in Florida, and has been spreading throughout other parts of the country. We recommend that dog owners have their loved ones vaccinated to protect them from this virus. Our canine flu vaccines provide immunity from both the H3N2 and H3N8 strains of CIV. Symptoms of this virus include sneezing, persistent coughing, ocular and nasal discharge, and lethargy. If you see these signs in your pet, or would like to have them vaccinated, contact us immediately.
Parasite Prevention is Just as Important
Just as with vaccinations, parasite prevention is critical both for outdoor and indoor pets, including cats, since some parasites can cause potentially-deadly health problems. Infected mosquitoes can cause Heartworm disease. Ticks can cause Lyme disease and other infections. Fleas can cause flea allergy dermatitis and cause tapeworm infection. Here in Wilton Manors, there are many parasites that can be a year-round concern, so it’s important to provide year-round protection for your dog or cat in the form of preventative products and annual testing (heartworm, etc.). We can discuss our recommendations for your pet’s needs during their next appointment.
